A humidifier or a whole house humidifier can make all the difference in how comfortable you are this winter. Turning the temperature up in your home will keep you warm, but dry.
The recommended indoor relative humidity is 3 to 4 times the humidity in the average North American home in winter. If those levels aren't reached, you could be exposing yourself and your family to extreme dryness. Dryness not only affects your skin, nose, and throat, but it also dries out the wood in your home. The wood framing around doors and windows begins to shrink, which can cause air to filter in, and thus make your home less energy efficient. Wood floors and trim can begin to separate, and walls and ceilings can begin to crack. Dryness can even weaken the joints of expensive furnishings.
Humidifiers distribute water vapor throughout your home by allowing the dry air that is circulating through your vents to pass through a water panel. The air then comes in contact with the water that is being passed through the humidifier, thus causing a water vapor to occur. Humidifiers help to eliminate dry, parched air throughout the entire house, and while it is delivering up to 50% humidity, it is also helping your house to stay warmer, which is giving you energy-saving indoor temperatures.
Aprilaire® whole house humidifiers are our product of choice. If you prefer another brand, we can install that too.
